I’ve seen a lot of rules laid out for meetings at the Hall of Flowers lately, and you know, sometimes they stick and sometimes they don’t. Keep that in mind when you’re noshing on some Arizmendi at the first Neighborhood Parks Council Park Town Hall Meeting tomorrow, Saturday, October 30th from 10:00 AM to Noon near 9th and Lincoln at the Hall of Flowers.

Check it:

MEETING GROUND RULES
We treat each other with respect, even when we disagree.
We stay on topic.
We intend to develop personal relationships to enhance trust and open communication.
We value constructive feedback. We will avoid being defensive and give feedback in a constructive manner.
We emphasize open and honest communication – there are no hidden agendas.
We de-personalize discussion of issues – no attacks on people.
One person talks at a time; there are no side discussions.
We turn off cell phones.
We arrive on time.
We end on time.

That’s what’s in store for you.

Or, you can rebel, as this fellow and a couple hundred others did not too long ago at a meeting to charge auslanders admission to Strybing Arboretum. (Good times.)

Remember, the Neighborhood Parks Counsel isn’t the Department of Rec and Park, they’re just a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rec and Park or they just act like they’re a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rec and Park. We’ll find out tomorrow, I s’pose.

When they go, “I’m just a facilitator,” that’s when you’ll know.

Anyway, here’s your sked for tomorrow AM:

Ever more deets, after the jump

“Over the next twelve months, beginning on October 30th, Neighborhood Parks Council will be hosting a series four Park Town Halls on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12pm to hear your views about managing our parks, get your creative solutions to challenges, and identify concerns BEFORE park decisions are made by officials.

As San Francisco’s premier park advocacy organization, we have heard your desire to have more access to park decision makers outside of formal City-run meetings and to discuss park issues in advance of decisions. NPC is hosting these town halls and inviting City and park officials to come and listen so that issues, concerns and solutions can be identified by neighbors without the pressure of a City-run hearing.

NPC is hosting these town halls as an independent non-profit to hear from park users and to inform our advocacy. NPC has invited elected and appointed officials, including district supervisors and park commissioners, along with recreation and park department staff to hear your comments and concerns. NPC encourages meeting attendees to bring ideas and creative solutions to improve our parks and will publish the notes from the meeting on our website, as well as submit them to the Recreation and Park Department and City Hall.

The scope of each meeting will be citywide, but the location will rotate over the course of the year. The first town hall will be held in the northwestern quadrant of the City on October 30, 2010.

Northwest: Saturday, October 30 at the County Fair Buildingflyeragenda
Northeast: January 2011 at SoMA Gene Friend Recreation Center
Southwest: March 2011 at Oceanview Playground, Minnie & Lovie Ward Recreation Center
Southeast: May 2011 at Upper Noe Recreation Center

City budget planning for FY 2011-12 begins in January and it is probable that our parks and recreation system will once again face budget cuts. Now is the time to plan for our park system’s future. Now is the time to discuss what our priorities are and potential future issues. In addition to identifying challenges, we want to hear the community’s ideas of how to solve outreach challenges, appropriately raise revenue, and improve maintenance.

NPC is partnering with San Francisco Parks Trust to raise awareness about the Park Town Hall series.

Pastries for the Town Hall meetings provided by Arizmendi Bakery.

PARK TOWN HALL – AGENDA
October 30, 2010 10:00 am
County Fair Building, Recreation Room

The purpose of this meeting is to engage in a public discussion of park issues outside of a decisionmaking
forum, such as a Recreation and Park Commission Meeting. All comments made during the
meeting, or submitted to NPC by Friday, November 5th, will be complied by subject area and
submitted to RPD Staff, Commissioners and elected officials. A copy of this report will also be
available on NPC’s website or hardcopy (by request). See feedback submittal information below.

Thank you for helping NPC provide constructive feedback and solutions to improve our park system
to park decision makers.

NPC intends to hold four citywide forums on parks each year, focusing on subjects prioritized by park
users. Do you have a suggestion for a park topic to focus on at the next forum? Tell Us!
